Turtles & Tortoises of Alabama


Turtles are aquatic or terrestrial reptiles that have horny toothless jaws and a bony or leathery shell into which the head, limbs, and can can be withdrawn in most species. They have dry scales skin and enjoy basking in the sun. All species of turtles lay eggs.

There are 42 species, representing 18 genus, of Turtles and Tortoise found in the State of Alabama.
