Description: Rena segrega is characterized by having 10 rows of scales around the tail, as in other members of the R. dulcis group, but it lacks supraocular scales, similar to members of the R. humilis group. The blindsnake is pinkish or dark tan. They have smooth and shiny scales.

Habitat: The species' habitats range from deserts and desert-grasslands to brush-covered mountain slopes, including rocky hillsides, canyon bottoms or washes near stream courses, riparian zones, areas near springs, sandy areas above ocean beaches, and sometimes gardens and farmland. This secretive, fossorial snake sometimes can be found under rocks, wood, or debris, among plant roots, or in crevices, often in loose damp soil.

Diet: Its diet is made up mostly of insects and their larvae and eggs.

Reproduction: The species reproduces through parthenogenesis, the female lays up to four unfertilized eggs in mid summer, which hatch in approximately six weeks.

Status: Listed as Least Concern in view of the wide range, probably relatively stable extent of occurrence, area of occupancy, number of subpopulations, and population size. No major threats are known.
